Fluidic Pictures

In the fluidic pictures the color alone calls the shots: the material color, which is poured in individual layers onto a self-supporting color base, dries even as it’s in the process of flowing. Here, Thomas Emde steers the viewer’s attention to the intrinsic value and material aesthetic of color while, as the same time, breaking the boundaries of the traditional mimetic function of panel painting. The true focal point is the material and the painting process — the essence of painting in itself!
